“What I’m hearing is…” – Fabrizio Romano shares update on Eberechi Eze amid strong links with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their efforts to secure an attacking talent as the transfer window progresses. One of their primary focuses is Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, with Spurs eyeing a summer move.

Despite Eze being under contract with Palace until June 2027, Spurs are reportedly ready to meet his £60 million release clause, plus an additional £8 million in potential add-ons, bringing the total to £68 million.

This would surpass Tottenham’s previous record transfer fee of £63 million including add-ons for Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, in a recent YouTube update, provided insights into the situation.

He indicated that while Eze is indeed a target for Spurs, the negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage.

Romano reported that Crystal Palace are keen to retain the England international, and the deal’s progression will depend on whether Spurs meet the release clause. He emphasised that the transfer is not imminent and discussions are ongoing.

Romano said:

“For Eberechi Eze, I see many questions coming from you guys but at the moment what I’m hearing is that there is still nothing at advancing stages. Crystal Palace are still hoping for him to stay. The release clause is also into his contract, so it will depend on the release clause. But at the moment it’s still not something happening today it’s still not something imminent.”

Eze’s recent inclusion in England’s squad for the ongoing Euro 2024 highlights his quality. The attacking midfielder’s abilities were on full display last season, even with a month-long absence due to a muscle injury.

He still managed to score 11 goals and provide four assists in 27 Premier League appearances, showcasing his impact on the field.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is eager to strengthen the squad to contend for the Premier League title next season, and Eze’s playing style is seen as ideal for his footballing philosophy.
