We Need To Talk About José Mourinho [podcast]

By The Boy -

With any luck, those that have struggled with my recent blockbuster piece, will find this podcast even more frustrating. That would be a good thing, because the penny needs to drop, and drop soon. We need to talk.

The message is uncomplicated. Look at where we were, think about the hurdles that must be completed, and then look to which current Premier League manager has brought success to his team, and how long that took.

Or don’t. Stay where you are, bleating about being entertained.

Fans can be fickle.. In an opinionated sport, what cracks me up is when the 30 stone pub guy who has never played at any level can often be right.

Where has Easty gone? Has he finally blocked me? 😂 I just realised theres no spamming of Botch and net wages and fees.. Perhaps he’s supporting PSG now?

I’m not sure about our owners. The treatment of Jol and Redknapp and certain players were atrocious.. Also I find it hard to believe Lewis and Levy aren’t in it for the money. They are all about the money all their lives.

I hope you’re right about this bruv.. The sooner covid fcuks off the better obviously.. Over 1 billion is a huge number though. Chelsea, Liverpool and Bournemouth all pulled out of building their stadiums at the same time, all because of the financial doubt.. And that was before the pandemic.. That debt could seriously hinder us, and our future if it gets much bigger… The pressure Levy is under now is ginormous.

*not to just pick out 66….all World cups are the same. That’s how I knew what would happen in 2018. Once you see it gets clearer and clearer.

It’s only people’s egos preventing them from seeing it now. it’s not easy to admit one has been fooled. It’s so obvious especially now with the way VARs being used it’s just getting silly. It’s not like it’s new, the 66 world cup was fixed, look it up. The world’s a stage.

What master plans that then? Money was about to be spent on the squad (now that the money was about to roll in) or do you think levy/ENIC were gonna nick it all?

We are WAY a head of schedule. José won’t be playing this style next season after we’ve won something with it this season. Couple more José windows and all the moaners will stop moaning

And I was right about Bale. Never go back. It was all alllll about shirt sales for Dan. Perhaps he could have spent the money on a full back who’s not spent most his career in league 1 and the championship and is out his depth like Doherty or a striker someone’s heard of……then again, why would he if it’s decided off the pitch?

Where we were? Poch died the inevitable death that ALL ENIC underlings die. But the club were in title races and finish 2nd 3rd’s etc so other than the lull just before he left nothing revolutionary has occured. When Mourinho came in the team were 3 points off 6th where they finished. Just 3 points, and that was with a very very timely lockdown break which enabled Son and Kane and other injury’s to come back, even then, still 6th. His appointment was for PR….just like the Bale loan. That PR is for the Premier League product as well as for Levy cos they need Jose to keep it vaguely interesting, which will likely result in a title this season. Not cos he’s the special one on the pitch, but cos he’s the special one off it. The Prem , like NFL NBA Champs Lge is fixed, scripted entertainment. Hence LiVARpool have become the team who are statistically the worse off from VAR decisions this season and why City did nothing in the transfer market. They must keep it interesting. IE the “Leicester fairytale” in a season where they were selling a billion quid tv deal.

Aye, we were led to believe that personal terms were agreed with both. Then both fell through because of transfer fees… Imagine we had Jack and Bruno now.. Instead of Dele and Winks all day.

The club hierarchy’s master plan doesn’t require a successful football operation in the true sense.

Good podcast 👌 have to agree with everything.. Apart from Kane and his loan adventures. 😆 Leyton Orient he got roughed up and struggled. Leicester he struggled. Everywhere he struggled. I believe these struggles helped make him the man and player he is today.. Crucial in his development.. It was certainly no masterplan by the club.. But it all worked out.

My whole point is that Botch signed 27 odd first team players for us in his tenure.. And got rid of around 45 players….. He obviously had his ‘say’. He was supported and backed to an extent..

He kept telling us he was berry appy with his squad. And how tough it was to get a player good enough to improve us. He should have said otherwise had this been the case! I presume you also wonder why many call him Poch the Patsy?… And no of course it wasn’t just the ones I mentioned. Botch saw the release of 45-50 odd players. Some who he bought himself like cards, nocloudou and yedlin..

The taste might be tantalising, the football certainly isn’t. There is no question that Jose needs to fashion a team in his image and he deserves a chance to do so.
Will Levy spend significantly for three more windows? Daniel has been known to skip a transfer window or two. Will Jose focus on proven winners 30+ yo’s who come on a free to deliver the promised Holy Grail?
Will Kane and Son in particular want to go down this road to achieve the “new” metric, the only one now recognised in sport, namely winning trophies?

What really sorted the scouse out was spending hundreds of millions on world class players like VVD and Allison etc… Target great players in the positions you need.. We have just wasted far too much money for years now.

He wouldnt have took the job if he couldnt work with Levy. The support would have been discussed in full detail.

I would say apart from Joe Hart we did great business for only 60 mil.. Bale still needs to get going but his signing woke everyone up. He will have influence even when injured. He will fly when he gets fit. Reguilion and Pierre are immediate first choice. Doherty and Vinicius were needed. Definitely an improvement over nobody at all….. People still seem to think and say that Botch ‘had no say’ in transfers coming in or out of the club… But this was all in his last ever window, before he was sacked…. What about the previous 5 and a half years? When Townsend had a tiff with Jesus then Botch had him shipped straight out.. Siggurdson went really quickly.. Ryan Mason, Bentaleb, Aaron Lennon.. Obviously Botchy had huge influence over who left and who came in.. Same as Harry Redknapp did…Same as Jose does now, but Jose is doing it in the middle of Covid whilst we are drowning in debt…… If Levy was choosing who to buy and sell, like Woodward has been doing at United, then we would be relegated by now.

Fair play to Ollie, going on an unbeaten run moving stealth like to 2nd in the table Man Utd have recovered well and having regrouped from being thrashed by Spurs at OT are very much in the title race!

The common Spursy theme is that when push comes to shove by failing to seize the opportunity we fall off a cliff at the decisive moment.

  • We nearly but failed to win the PL title in 2016
  • We nearly but failed to beat Liverpool to win the CL final
  • And we are seemingly bottling this seasons PL title race challenge.

So close but so far when until we win some silverware meaningless or otherwise. Hence the “nearly side”

When you looks at the Liverpool side that won last seasons title and were pipped by 1 pt the season before clearly they were destined to reach the holy grail simply not over reliant on 2 players for goal!!.

Pretty simply really – Liverpool

  1. Excellent Keeper
  2. Excellent Full Backs
  3. Excellent centre half
  4. Excellent midfield
  5. Excellent attack [Firmino – Salah and Firmino]
  6. Excellent Captain/leader
  7. Excellent manager constantly shouting and ranting on the touchline

plus strength in depth adding classy Jotta to the side.

Despite potentially damages consequences of selling both Coutinihio and Suarez the essential ingredient is zany Klopp establishing a winning mentality and bonding the side marshalled by Henderson plus work ethic of the likes of experienced Milne at al into a well oiled machine which has taken time but mission accomplished!!

All depends if he gets support from the chairman to the standards he requires ,history says this will not happen.
Im still stunned we got so many players this year of which only 2 have improved the team.

We’ve made a lot of progress in a short time with Jose. What’s frustrating a lot of fans is that we’re so close to being real challengers but we keep tripping ourselves up and refusing to learn from our mistakes.

We’ve gone from sublime against United and Southampton to ridiculous against West Ham, Wolves. How many seasons are you going to get City, Liverpool and Chelsea wobbling all at the same time and begging you to mount a serious title run?

I’m with Mourinho, we’re ahead of schedule, what type of team will he field with another three windows under his belt? Glory is so close we can almost taste it but it’s tantalisingly out of reach, hence the angst among some
fans.

About 25 minutes in so far. First 2 lasting thoughts:

1. Birdie, you do pretty well at keeping H on track. He likes to meander a bit. Well done in occasionally steering back to the course.

2. I am just an outsider looking in, but it has consistently occurred to me that Spurs fans often do not really realise – at all – how much of a detriment many tend to be in reference to the success of the Club. Much of the material in these casts tends to support that observation. That “weak mentality” they like to speak of ? They need to look in the mirror if they want to find one of the primary sources of it.

I obviously cannot speak to the experiences of those fans who have been fans for 50 years and longer. I can only look at it from the viewpoint of a fairly modern supporter.

From that Viewpoint, a lot of it just reminds me of the same sort of stubbornness a donkey exhibits when it won’t come out of the rain only because it doesn’t like the new stable.
