Watch Your Daily Briefing: Pragmatism is called for

By The Boy -

Beating anyone 4-0 or 5-0 is not to be sniffed at. Emphatic wins reinstate belief and on a more practical note, they don’t half boost the old goal difference. By the same token, such victories could potentially skew perspective.

Looking at the Premier League table, it’s not the sides beneath us that are the immediate concern. It’s provoking the teams above us to falter – whilst we sustain some consistency. That’s the task, that’s before us.

Spurs will need more than the ability to thump sides in free-fall.

Nobody is getting ahead of themselves here, we can only concentrate on what we do in each game, the one thing Conte has to realise is that every game is different which means you approach each game separately.
With our squad, just because it wins one game doesn’t mean it’s right for the next, but Conte appears to prefer playing a settled side which is fine normally, but this squad is a bit of a mishmash.
There is no doubt Utd will go for it, they have to so it could play to our strengths on the counter, and I am hoping they feel the pressure of getting a result more than we do, which will benefit us.

The acid test is Sat. Utd are low atm. So, It’s all about the performance for me. We may lose but how we lose is what’s important. If we look back to games like Burnley, Boro, where we went after emphatic wins. The following performances were dire. No will to win with players strolling about looking clueless as to how to win the game. Included in that were Kane & Son. As much as we praise them for some outstanding performances they have been as guilty as others for not putting in a shift.

Saturday against Utd couldn’t come at a better time for us. Their confidence is low. We have to put pressure on them from the first whistle. What we can’t do is let them have the ball and build confidence and start thinking. It’s only Tottenham. We’ve done them in their own back yard before, we can do them again. It really does come down to. Which Tottenham turn up.

Absolutely pragmatism is called for.

Good result, beating dross in the way that is expected, rather than the dicking about the way we did at Burnley and Boro.

A rallying cry from Kane today and he’s back on form, playing for a move or playing to get back in the Champions League? Who knows, anyway he’s putting his back into it, which is crucial at this moment in time.

Nothing to lose under a more than decent coach, let’s see what happens. Hamstrung by dreadful transfers and the usual Levy meddling. It’s a miracle we aren’t where Everton are, let’s face it…

True. Our ponderous ball movement is exposed by a quality high press. You can see Conte’s trying to get these guys to move the ball quicker one-touch, but there’s only so much he can do with guys like Winks, Davies, Sanchez, Doherty, Emerson, Sess, PEH, even Sonny who don’t have this ability. That’s why he brought in Kulu and Bent who are better at this. Doherty has improved here as evidenced by 3 world class one touch passes so maybe there’s hope.

They also don’t like to engage too much in the other thorn in Tottenham’s side – the high intense press. Could go either way, but I’m certainly not feeling doom and gloom about it.

Arsenal have Leicester and Liverpool next, we have Man U and Brighton, absolutely critical week in our chances for top 4.

Thinking about United more, they are the type of team that won’t sit back so we’ll have a good shot at getting in behind the line. Lindelof and Maguire are not especially mobile so I like the matchup provided they don’t pick us apart up front. Their performance against City was shocking, they looked like they didn’t feel like playing at all in the 2H.
