Video Evidence: The Boy Skipp Is Developing Into A Viable Alternative To Hojbjerg At Norwich City

Oliver Skipp is coming out of himself at Norwich City and is achieving at least one sliding tackle in most games, putting himself right into the action winning 80%. This is without picking up a single yellow or red card.

This is probably not the most exciting football clip you’ll watch today, but it is reflective of how Oliver breaks down the opposition in midfield. The clue is in the name, ‘defensive midfielder’.

Here’s Oliver keeping the attack alive against Birmingham City, another understated action. Sure, there’s a still a way to go but it’s great to see Skipp coming on so well. If Hojbjerg has to be rested or rotated, then neither Winks nor Sissoko are really able to do the job.

Tackling. (A clean take) ain’t a easy thing man. Harder than that is not letting it get to where it has to be clean.

Or maybe what I said was a bit too nuanced. If Skipp had been given Winks’s opportunities last season then he would have developed more and perhaps we’d be used to having a player that does it instead of going gaga at the sight of Hojbjerg doing it. Can’t spell it out any clearer than that.

Depends on the club. I’m not sure Millwall was the right place for Troy to be sent to. He shoulda been sent abroad too. Somewhere more technical. Maybe Tottenham wanted to keep him here in London to settle.

Are we are now comparing Hojbjerg to Hoddle?

Can play. He was getting game at the lamex when Marcus and that were there. 16 17 he must’ve been. Can remember him playing next to Timothy e and playing well (always muddy he was) kaz sterling marsh rodes ect. Played right back for Norwich recently (anything to keep him on the pitch🌚

If you parsed what I said as being anti Hojbjerg then perhaps you are under the influence of medication that wasn’t prescribed.

He doesn’t bring what Sissoko brings and so isn’t a replacement for Sissoko. That does not mean he does bring anything to the team.

It would be great to have him in the squad next season. Hoijberg can’t play every single game.

I think this is what players with ability coupled with the right attitude will do. No excuses about “the club wasn’t right” or “didn’t get the opportunity to impress” you make these things happen yourself.

Looks to me that he’s seized the chance and is developing, opposed to just marking time.

The kids at Chelsea who are currently playing in the first team squad,Abraham,James,Mount,Tomori have all been on loan and matured quicker than if they were playing with the under 23,s, it’s for the best that Skipp,Parrott,Sessegnon and Foyth were allowed to leave instead of sitting on the bench and will come back better players or sold on. I have high hopes Skipp will be back playing for Spurs next season challenging Hojbjerg for a place.

You’re the only person I’ve heard (so far) that doesn’t recognise or rate what Højbjerg brings to THFC. He’s up there as MotM contender nearly every match!?
& the team is about balancing players differing strengths & weaknesses & obviously some pairings may work better than others, that’s NOT an individual players fault, many factors are possible.

There’s just a little bit more to football than that simplistic view!?
Example: Glenn Hoddle couldn’t tackle for peanuts, but….

Also since Hojbjerg cannot do what Sissoko does the issue isn’t whether Sissoko can replace Hojbjerg but whether Hojbjerg can replace Sissoko. He can’t and we’ve seen that from the shitshows that ensue when Hojbjerg has been paired with Winks.

If we are going to make such a big deal about being able to do basic things like tackle then I would just point out that if we had afforded Skipp the opportunities that were instead afforded to Winks he wouldn’t have needed to go on loan and we wouldn’t have needed hojbjerg.

Good stuff he won’t fail for putting efg6rt in and trying to improve himself.
One thin I did notice from the first clip was both teams pressing, as lot less time on the ball.
