Video Evidence: Harry Winks’ Shocking 33-Minute Cameo

By The Boy -
Passing accuracy Harry Winks/Everton

Harry Winks is the epitome of the rot at Tottenham, having spent 8-seasons with us and the closest he’s got to Silverware is an Audi Cup winners’ medal. Links with possible transfers out of Haringey have been understandably thin on the ground, for a player whose leading attribute appears to be passing the ball accurately, Last night at Goodison we weren’t even treated to that dull routine. 67% simply wasn’t good enough.

Total successful actions Harry Winks/Everton

Too many black crosses, and this from a player seeking to cement his place into the England team.

This inadequate mess was a shot on goal.

Here’s a mind-boggling selection of clips of an experienced senior player, operating as a defensive midfielder – that unfortunately – cannot defend.

Winks, Dele… the list of players rattling around on Spurs’ books to no good purpose is saddening. That’s the polite version.

Wasn’t that the year the club made record profits 0f over £100 million? If I make a firm that much money I’d want a good bonus too. It’s business cush.

Yeah even though he took less than the previous year 2.96 million.. Look at the previous year though.. Levy smashed that taking home 7million including a 3 million bonus for building the stadium! Which has put spurs in a 1.1 billion debt! 🙈

That Madrid team was already through, and were beaten 1-2 by Girona the match before. Relegation minnows… Winks, Dele, Tintin, we saw what these guys were made of in the CL final that year… Tiny little peanut bollocks.

I’ve no idea what happened to make him the player he is. I do know that there is a very good player in there. An attacking player who can pick a pass and be direct on goal when required. Like I say, I’ve no clue what’s been done to extinguish that flame. He was that player when he first broke through.

I have to say. Giving Winks the crown of worst player in the clubs history suggests you’ve not been a fan long.

I, and I’m sure many others in this group have seen far worse. A lot worse.

So did Wilshere and now he’s playing in the second division.

The comments aren’t harsh. We have the most expensive season tickets in the league to watch a player who would fit in with Spurs in the late 90s when we were fighting relegation.

Kane has natural talent. Winks has nothing. Extra training would only make Winks himself wonder why he’s still so mediocre at every attribute of the sport.

Hes God awful. Winks is one of the worst players we’ve had at Spurs in the 2000s. Dean Marney levels.

The evidence has finally surfice. Have a field day y’all. Admitting he was terrible. But certain corners of our fan base were waitng for a day like this to go wild. Maybe Hugo was no saint having no idea more often than not where his sticks were.

What Winks has done to improve his game can only be verified by the coaching staff, but I think he trains, picks up his wages and goes home. A shame, but we can’t hold on to players like him. We are developing a habit of keeping them and it is hurting us. Player recruitment needs an overhaul at Spurs, something we all have known for years, but nothing is changing. You’d think that having Kane, a role model for all players that self improvement can happen (as long as you work hard) would benefit Dele and Winks, but it appears not.

There is the barometer. Where do the players we do not need/want go? Lingaard to West Ham, Barkley to Villa. Burnley, Palace, Southampton, Newcastle await our unwanted goods. As you said, Winks would not get in Fulham’s team. He is the product of academy football, just too ‘meh’ but will get the club £20-30m.

He’s turned into a parody of Jack Wilshere who gets free kebabs in Islington on the back of one good performance v Barcelona.

Some of the comments – little on the harsh side. His time is up at Tottenham this summer. Sure, he holds some value (English International & age) yada, yada. Media & pundits seem to regal.

A summer clear out is essential moving forward. Desperate need of creative goal scoring midfielders.

Spend the moula wisely for once.

Indeed it was.
Funnily enough i was looking at a report of the madrid game a few days back. That was 2017 and majority of team is the same. Dele got a 9 that day. Winks has arguably not had a better game since which is hard to understand given that was one of his first senior games.

They do nick all our money pal.

Where do you think the profit generated by the club’s business performance goes?

To a charity?

It goes to Levy (the highest paid executive in the league) and Joe Lewis (absentee owner)

Are you serious? Making a few quid lmao have some shame. We are Tottenham Hotspur. Not Wigan. We regularly finish in the top 10 list of richest clubs on Earth.

We are a club that want to be Batman but have a Robin mentality. Pure beta mindset. Your comment defines it perfectly.

With Winks, we seriously need to start talking about him as the worst player in the club’s modern history.

Every other player contributed ‘something’. I cannot think of one thing that Winks does even remotely decently, never mind well.

Passing, shooting, tackling, heading, positional play, defending, tracking back… its all dog sh*t.

Dog sh*t.

“There are games where he drives us up the pitch and plays some quality quick forward passes…”

He rarely does that and doesn’t seem to have the confidence, ability or physical presence to go past two or three players with the ball at his feet before releasing a forward pass or to play a through-ball to put a colleague in on goal.

He also has no real defensive skills as a defensive midfielder.

He just isn’t good enough – and one or two decent games here or there cannot justify his place in the side – or even on the bench.

A pity, I had high hopes for Winks a couple of years ago. He doesn’t seem able to cope with the physicality of the Premier League, maybe a Spanish or Italian club might be better.

Use whatever funds he brings for another creative midfielder because when N’Dombele goes off we aren’t the same team.

I liked what I saw of Lo Celso and its early days but I hope he is able for the rigours of the Premier League. His absence is really hurting us.

I remember a CL night at Wembley against Real Madrid when Winks and Dele were outstanding against the team who went on to win the trophy. We don’t know what has happened to them since. I think Winks is a good player who might not be quite good enough for a top 4 side. This was the case with Gylfi who has now found his level and with plenty of football and a manger who trusts him is belatedly flourishing. Maybe this is what Winks needs. There are games where he drives us up the pitch and plays some quality quick forward passes. Now that Hojbjerg is clearly better and we are also playing Ndombele his chances are limited, consequently when he does play he seems desperate to make an impression which you can fully understand. He needs to rediscover ‘what he is’ and what made him such a highly rated prospect. He is young enough to come again but this appears to be away from Tottenham. I think he is bright and clever enough to go abroad and this may bring him on. He has Spanish blood so this is a good bet. Btw his last goal was a beauty against Wycombe.

Winks is a player that can’t defend, doesn’t create and rarely scores. His last goal was a woefully mishit diagonal pass.
Its sad because he’s come through the academy and genuinely supports spurs, but he’s reached his ceiling.
He lacks physical presence and his passing ability is average. He also seems to struggle with confidence, last night being a perfect example.
He should generate some funds if he is sold, but even if you look at Fulham’s midfield he’d struggle to get a start!

Who’d have thought that a business would try to make some money on a successful event. Every club would do this; any club who doesn’t would be a joke. You might think this makes Tottenham a joke club; it doesn’t, of course. There may be aspects of the club that make us a ‘joke club’ but this certainly isn’t it.

Winks did have a total disaster of a cameo..perhaps he was trying to hard to play progressive football when all he’s good at is side to side to side
