I never thought I’d say this, but it’s a pity that this incident wasn’t referred to VAR. This was the best clip I could rustle up, but certain factors don’t require high definition quality.
⚫️ Matt missed the ball – he also missed the player
⚫️ The Leeds’ technical area couldn’t have been closer. No one appeal.
⚫️ Not one Leeds player appealed.
⚫️ Matt’s left foot was on the floor when the right leg swung in.
Perhaps I’m missing something and an action that doesn’t achieve anything at all is dangerous-play?
He’s still bedding in.. Needs a few games under his belt and confidence will come. He’s trying a bit too hard I feel. He’ll be fine. Similar to aurier but bringing a few different attributes to the table.
Forgetting the semantics I never expected him to be this poor. Is he low on confidence or something?
Never heard of an auto yellow mate.. Its down to the ref to decide I’m pretty sure.. Often refs don’t book in the area at all. Penalty and no card at all.
Talking about rule change. Are they still issuing auto yellow cards for penalties?
Asinine comment.
Ah.
Totally agreed, but that will only serve to visit the rest of the law when a player gets book for contact, beaten by the sheer skill yet the foul had no malious intent.
Maybe we can take a look at the Paul Pogba version of the rain delay dive the oval while we at it. Good luck.
Unless the rules have changed recently then we can’t. One can appeal a straight red, but not a yellow card.. So he’s got a one match suspension which isn’t too bad.. The fa do change rules, but these have been the same for time.. I only know this because I’ve always had loads myself 🙄
I think he was booked for being rubbish
Reckless intent would look to cover it – but I’d like the thing appealed and for someone to prove intent.
I made the same observation on an earlier blog.It looked a lot worse than it was and the fact that he missed the opponent completely and not one of the opposition appealed says a lot in my opinion.
However in an era when the game is almost non contact now the decision hardly comes as a surprise.I would hope we appeal if it is possible.Mourinho might settle for the one match missed though as he has Aurier at his disposal.
Can we have a goal for trying to score..even if we don’t..
As far as I understand the law H, I think the referee applied the following passage from Law 12 … “Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned” … I think the ref must have considered the intent of the challenge and deemed it reckless. I have to admit it did look as if Doherty was trying to foul him, even though he missed him, therefore I assume he was booked for reckless intent.
I’m guessing it was based on intent and wreckless. Like I say only a guess not defending the ref in any way
Like I said on your live blog…how you can get booked for nearly tackling someone is anyone’s guess..
