Video: Despite the loss to West Ham Nuno Espírito Santo states Tottenham were better team

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur headed into their matchup against West Ham United riding a four-match win streak in all competitions. Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad hoped to make it five versus The Hammers, but things didn’t go according to plan.

After 70 minutes of 0-0 football, West Ham United would open the scoring courtesy of Michail Antonio. The 31-year-old would score the lone goal in the match, giving David Moyes’ squad the 1-0 victory.

Following the defeat, Nuno spoke to Sky Sports, where he stated that despite the loss, the Portuguese tactician says he felt his squad was the better team.

“We were the better team, honestly. I think we controlled the game; we had chances. We had possession. West Ham is a good team, but they only created chances on counter-attacks and set-pieces. We played better, but this is football,” Nuno said.

“The last pass was there, but we need to be more aggressive in our offensive game. We controlled the game. The whole game was under control. The table is a reference but doesn’t guide us. We have to improve our character as a team, our wish to want to achieve a better team game. We need to work on that.”

Indeed. When you see that the ‘couldn’t care less about the team’ attitude starts at the very top,who gives a shit.

Utd. next weekend should be jolly.

So much for Kane looking to break PL records

might as well set up Sonny to get the ‘partnership’ goal/assist one – you only need one more goal for that Harry…

it’s going to be a long season

I think 6th place flatters us, we are at best mid table. The rest of the league has continued to invest and improve their squads our chairman only looks to save the money he lost from Covid

Don’t wish to be mean but going by his incoherent, evasive, defensive public interviews NES on one level appears to be somewhat limited, definitely vague bordering on a bit dim at times-by which I mean he doesn’t appear to see what most of the rest of us see, which is a team withering on the vine, over ripe, bloated and about to drop to the ground with an almighty thud-we still have to play Brentford, odds anyone? There is no reason for any of our players to improve. I mean would you be worried this morning if you had put in a performance like Kane or Son yesterday? No you wouldn’t. Why? Because there are no alternatives. We’ve seen the B team-enough said. But we have not yet seen the worst of this shambles. On another, more important level NES is the perfect fit for Levy. While retaining a calm reasonable exterior NES is the perfect foil for Levy’s summer blunders. He’s just another Roadside attraction, a diversion. He is sauntering, eyes wide open into the inevitable sacking any time soon. He has given Danny some thinking/plotting time in order to hatch the next iteration of his game which could be called ” Pretence Football”. It’s a partnership with a win/win outcome. With regard to your “What Nuno was really thinking” video, I think you’re spot on H, albeit amusing, perhaps there is a knowing cynic lurking under the surface, behind the apparent gentle public mask. The cynic in me, which in matters Spurs is fairly large by now, thinks that NES was finally chosen to be our manager because he willingly tows the ENIC line which is “anything can happen in football and in our club, with my players, but it is especially nothing. Nothing happens, nothing changes. I don’t discuss with you individual player performance or even team performance because this is a private matter that is between me and my players. I don’t even bother to answer your questions if I don’t feel like it. We like it like that and you can see that our beautiful stadium is full so the fans are happy-no?” Err- NO NOT EXACTLY.

I totally lost faith in this guy when we were down 3-0 vs Crystal f*****g Palace and he looked totally apathetic on the touchline. Didn’t even bother making a sub. I’m Portuguese, so I was really rooting for him to succeed, but right now it’s pretty clear Nuno is not part of the solution. Unfortunately, nor is he our biggest problem…

Complete and utter nonsense, Nuno is clutching at straws. We were awful 2nd half, 1st half we were ok but without scoring. This was a fresh 11 playing a team who mostly played on Thursday night.

err- we lost on Thursday night. If you cannot get the basics correct how can we rely upon anything else you write?

My god this old tune is a spurs classic

”possession stats point to us being the better side la la la”

In a nutshell, we have owners who have no intention of investing in the team, such as to win anything and a ‘star striker’ who manifestly doesn’t want to be here (as evidenced by his utterly lacklustre recent performances) and should have been sold in the last transfer window. So trying to blame Nuno for the current state of affairs at THFC is asinine.

Our current position of 6th in the table, is a fair reflection of a legacy of flawed and/or chronic under-investment in the squad presided over by ENIC (Lewis and Levy). We are clearly deficient in several areas and the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of ENIC and their incompetent hired underlings like Hitchen, not Nuno. ENIC out!

Nuno you need to go to Specsavers, if you call having no shot on goal in the second half as us being better than that lot, you really must be crazy. It’s boring football from sub standard players that Levy has bought in, that’s the result of that combination and why we’ll win nothing again, not even the Europa Conference League. Levy, Nuno, Lewis and ENIC OUT.!!!
