The Goat definitely has the right mentality and attitude, it’s his skills that are left wanting..

I think Dier, Dele and Winks all had their moments – Winks and Dele played well against Real Madrid in the CL for example – but that’s all it ever was. Very nice moments among a deluge of mediocrity.

They’ve not been helped by the overall chaos, but it’s been too long. They’ve had plenty of time to show genuine quality under Poch, Jose and Mason, and they did so under none of them. Time to go.

True. It was just interesting to me – we’re always in one project or another; in the meantime, quite a number of teams just get it done, no faffing about.

I still don’t see how we didn’t win the EL once – even under Poch in our heyday – when 7th La Liga team Villarreal can do it. They’re hardly a side propped up by extensive spending, but they had a togetherness and a willingness to work hard.

I think Citeh and Chavski spend the sort of money that gets results eventually, whoever’s managing. Pep is a great coach but has he ever managed anything but a blue chip squad?

Barca in their pomp, Bayern (generally always in their pomp) and Citeh, billions of pounds worth of ‘pomp’.

You spend on the squad in the right way and the odds are stacked in your favour. You appear in more finals, you stay higher up the league etc. The reason why we don’t win stuff is because we don’t spend enough, prolifically enough or well enough.

The manager musical chairs is a nice distraction but the buck stops with Levy and ENIC. Not a single other person or entity…

They did spend huge sums in the summer. The players were there but Frank just wasn’t the man for the job. Tuchel is a master tactician but got undone by Rodgers in the FA Cup final.
Amazing how those rumours have died following the Poch speculation.

It is quite amazing how the England contingent have dropped off a cliff. Maybe they were always average and the league was just fairly poor on those occasions we managed top 4. Winks and Dele look completely shot of confidence. Rose should have been sold when his stock was up and Dier just doesn’t know what he is. He’s certainly not a top level centre back.

Portugal team looks pretty nifty on paper.
Back line of Cancelo, Dias, Pepe and Gureiro. Attackers include Ronny 7, Jota, Bernado Silva, Felix Joao, Goncalves, Bruno Fernandes and Andre Silva.
Arguably a more balanced team than England, although our team has more pace down the sides.

We have Lloris and Sissoko who are WC winners, of whom you would think would have the right attitude and mentality to draw upon, but in the case of Sissoko, most definitely not.
There are others I think possess the right attitudes within the club, however there are some such as Sissoko we need to get out.
As for England, they are blessed with the amount of talent they have available, Southgate choosing thirty three as a provisional squad is incredible, and should be winning the Euro’s this summer, despite his weak excuses.

Big problem now not just for Spurs is that players on pre Covid lavish contracts with a few years left, like Danny Rose will not want to move.

Good luck to City trying to move the likes of Sterling with his £300,000 basic a week.

Who in their right mind would want most of our lot? I have said it before but ninety per cent of that Spurs squad will still be here come August.

Chelsea spent a serious amount of money in the summer adding to a good squad.Spurs would have to spend 100s of millions to do something similar won’t happen

Chelsea are a different beast to Spurs. Yes they get through managers like we do but they back them in the market and if they don’t deliver they are sacked. De matteo won the Cl but was gone by November.

Oh and also, Tuchel (with zero signings of his own) has come in and won the Champions League in four months as manager, got to a final and pushed Chelsea into the top 4. This is how a club can operate as well – not based on five-year projects that might, eventually, lead to a trophy, if the stars align.

Spot on that squad is well and truly done .Need levy to get tough and tell most of them to get onto their agents and get out

Really good point about the inverse relationship between the number of Spurs players in the England team and the quality of the England team. I hadn’t thought of it like that before. Speaks volumes of the quality of our squad. Dire.

Just finished listening. Spot on, especially with our fabled England internationals.

Winks, Dele, Dier, Rose – none have been called up and all of them are now awful. Before them, there was Walker, who went to City to win stuff before we even started our two seasons at Wembley, and Trippier, who was broken by Spurs and fixed by Simeone, now he’s a title winner in La Liga.

Our only worthwhile English player is Kane – even Southgate can see that.
