But that would destabilise a (or many) national team due to the level of press speculation and I doubt the national teams would stand for it – Lopetigue and Real Madrid / Spain the other year spring to mind. If it’s already been agreed, there would highly likely be a complete black-out agreed in the contract.

Levy’s already taken a hammering recently; he wouldn’t want the bad PR for wrecking someone’s Euro campaign — and the potential mental impact that would have on the someone when they do take up our reigns.

Klinsmann ran the team when he came back to ‘rescue’ Gross. Didn’t take prisoners and has more than enough clout to not be a yes man…

Yes he has the choice of any English players, but he hasn’t done anything with them.Beaten semi finalists in the world cup ……wins you nothing. He is as tactically astute as Mason so i just don’t see the point of Southgate. He should be getting far more out of the players at his disposal and playing better football.

Hasnt Klinsmann said he would take it? I am intrigued as to why Levy would rather be rejected by the masses. So i have 3 Thoughts:
1) All these managers are boosting their own profiles or being fed a line by their agents….or…
2) Levy wants a proven winner (not likely if you consider some of those rejecting us…or
3) Levy and Klinsmann dont get on. Or Levy scared Klinsmann maybe too honest.

Things dragging on so long now I am almost regretting missing out on Zorro.
Whoever you sign Levy make sure only the 1st season is binding.

Top post. We are in such a mess that I’ve gone beyond angry and have taken to laughing because I really don’t know what else to do. Southgate would be a total disaster so he should fit perfectly.

The French physios would have been higher up the list of penalty takers than Sissoko!

Not completely certain it’s Southgate but it could well be a coach at the Euros.

However, the whole thing with him and younger players etc might suit the whole corporate image. Not sure how he’d work with Paratici though.

Excellent post. Levy wants the helicopter fan as the ground roots ones detest him. Globally the hiring of Southgate who I personally feel is an awful tactician, does give him the column inches he views as value. Enic out.

I’m thinking that Levy has Southgate in mind.

Its not so much about the managerial cred but the profile; Levy needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat who is essentially above reproach and at present, Southgate fits that bill.

This would be typical Levy, high profile, corporate type manager who’ll take on the kindergarten coaching team, will salve Kane and get performances from him when Levy breaks his gentleman’s agreement and who knows how to deal with a hostile media from a script.

Levy can offer the masses cake and bring in a man who has worked with the likes of Dier, Kane, Winks, etc. and who fits the global PR narrative of the training ground, the stadium, the England manager, the England captain and so on.

Can he manage a team in the Premier League? Well you can never eliminate anything, but he currently has pretty much the fantasy football job of selecting a squad from any English players, but will have a much more limited outlook in his selection at a club – especially one under Levy.

Perhaps its unfair to say that his results have been only moderate; many might have expected a better outcome and more dominant displays against some minnows, whilst stepping up a gear in class against more accomplished opponents. But the big test at THFC is getting a tune out of a brass section where the ‘br’ is decidedly optional.

I could be wrong here but this is so Levy-esque even to the point that he’d reckon he could get a cheap deal if they’re unemployed. But think about his situation and think about this as a solution: the headlines (particularly outside the UK) would be something like “Tottenham sign the England manager!” and Levy wears his “look what I’ve brought home” grin.

Never mind the quality, feel the width!

Could be, but it doesn’t square with the little bald thief having starting talks with Fonseca, Gattuso, Fonseca, et al.

Too bad Mbappe missed. I was looking forward to seeing Moussa hit one out of the stadium.

HH, I’m as frustrated as you are, but do you not think that the club’s apparent lack of action on the managerial front is because they have already identified Martinez and they are just waiting for him to finish in the Euros.
