Transfer insider believes Tottenham summer signing is a potential ‘Player of the Year’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Transfer insider Dean Jones has expressed his belief that Tottenham’s summer signing James Maddison has the potential to become the club’s Player of the Year.

Spurs beat Newcastle United to sign James Maddison from Leicester City in the summer. He cost them £40m but that fee has very quickly started looking like an absolute steal as he has made an instant impact at the club.

In just four Premier League appearances for Tottenham, Maddison has already showcased his impact, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

His performances have quickly established him as a key figure in Tottenham’s midfield.

Jones has highlighted Maddison’s creativity as his most significant asset and emphasised his potential to be named Tottenham’s Player of the Year based on his current form.

According to Jones, Maddison plays a crucial role in orchestrating Tottenham’s attack by collecting the ball from deeper positions and contributing to offensive play further up the pitch.

His ability to create scoring opportunities and make decisive passes has been a standout feature of his performances in a Spurs shirt.

He told GiveMeSport:

“He seems to basically be the brain of it all. He is the guy that gets things ticking because he can collect the ball off the backline and he can pick the ball up further forward.”

“He can connect the pieces, and he’s got an unbelievable edge of creativity about him.”

“I think James Maddison has the potential to be Tottenham’s Player of the Year.”

Maddison’s impact at Tottenham has been evident in a short period, with his standout goal against Burnley last week serving as a prime example of his contributions.

His ability to contribute goals and assists has been a valuable addition to Tottenham’s squad.

The competition for Tottenham’s Player of the Year is expected to be strong the way the entire team is performing at the moment. Established stars like Son Heung-min and the rejuvenated Yves Bissouma could very well be in contention as well considering their excellent performances.

While it is too early to think about the player of the year award, Maddison’s impressive start to his Tottenham career does indeed make him a legitimate candidate for the award.

All in all, the fact that we have so many players performing so well is nothing but a huge positive regardless of who ends up being named the player of the year.
