Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been outstanding for OGC Nice in Ligue 1 and his performances have attracted the attention of the north London club.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed in his column with CaughtOffside that the 24-year-old defender was a top target for Spurs this month, but the move has collapsed now.
The French outfit are not keen on selling the defender this month and any move would have to wait until the summer transfer window.
“We know that Jean-Clair Todibo was also a top target for Tottenham, but Nice are not open to selling the player in January, so that deal has basically collapsed now.”
Tottenham need quality central defenders and Todibo would have been a superb acquisition. He has been outstanding in the French league and he has attributes to do well in the Premier League as well.
Tottenham have looked vulnerable defensively in recent weeks and they need quality defenders to tighten up at the back and compete for Champions League qualification. The French international could have made a big difference for them defensively.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can sign a quality central defender before the January transfer window closes. They are now pursuing a move for the Romanian defender Radu Dragusin.
Missing out on a quality player like Todibo will certainly come as a blow for the Premier League club and it will be interesting to see if they decide to return for the 24-year-old at the end of the season.
