‘Tottenham were adamant’: Euro outfit failed with deadline day approach for Spurs player

By Saikat -

Tottenham winger Bryan Gil was linked with a move away from the club throughout the January transfer window but he failed to secure an exit in the end.

The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the North London club and he is not a regular starter for them. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and the Spaniard was a target for Italian club Lazio.

According to journalist Daniele Trecca, Lazio got in touch with the player’s representatives on deadline day in order to secure a move for the player on loan. However, ‘Tottenham were adamant’ about the inclusion of a ‘conditional redemption’ in the loan deal.

Lazio were unwilling to accept their demands and the move fell through in the end. It will be interesting to see if Gil can hold down a starting spot in the side during the second half of the season.

He will need to play more often in order to fulfil his potential. He was regarded as an elite talent during his time in Spain. However, the move to Spurs has not worked out for him.

A loan move in January would have been ideal for him. Spurs are unlikely to be able to offer him ample game time, especially with players like Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Timo Werner at their disposal.

The 22-year-old should look to secure a permanent exit from Tottenham at the end of the season.
