Tottenham want to sign 24-year-old Brazilian with a €80m release clause

By Saikat -

Tottenham has been linked with a move for the Roma defender Roger Ibanez.

The 24-year-old defender was linked with a move to Tottenham at the start of the season as well. It appears that Tottenham chose to pull out of the move because of his high asking price.

It remains to be seen whether the Premier League club can agree on a reasonable fee for the player at the end of this season.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for Roma and he has a release clause of around €80 million in his contract.

However, a report from Forza Roma claims that the player could be signed for a fee of around €35-40 million at the end of the season.

Tottenham should be able to afford that asking price and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come to an agreement in the coming months.

Ibanez has proven his defensive quality in the Italian league and he could be an important player for Tottenham as well.

The Londoners will have to add more quality at the back and Ibanez could form a solid partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

The Brazilian is still relatively young for a defender and he could improve further in the coming seasons. He has the potential to justify the reported asking price in the long run. Playing against top-class attackers in the Premier League and working with a manager like Antonio Conte could help the player improve further and fulfil his potential.
