Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
The 44-year-old has done a splendid job at the Dutch club this season and Feyenoord are the favourites to win the league title.
Slot is highly rated around Europe and he is regarded as a progressive manager with an attacking philosophy. Tottenham could certainly use someone like him at the helm next season.
Apparently, the manager was a target for Premier League club Leeds United as well and he was keen on moving to the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done at the end of the season.
Leeds were reportedly prepared to pay him €4 million per season (roughly £68k-a-week) and Tottenham are now ready to exceed that offer.
Dutch journalist Wilfred Genee has now revealed that Slot is looking to join a big club and he wants to be financially independent. The lucrative offer from Tottenham could prove to be hard to turn down for him.
“I heard from people last week that he is not staying anyway. He does not want to run the risk that things can go very badly in the Champions League and that he will no longer be in the picture with the big clubs. He wants to be financially independent as soon as possible. It’s easier at a big club,” he said (h/t Voetbal Zone).
“He wanted to go to Leeds. They wanted to pay €4m and he found that attractive. Spurs want to pay even more.”
Tottenham recently sacked Antonio Conte, and they have put Cristian Stellini in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season. Bringing in a quality attacking manager to replace the Italian could prove to be a wise decision.
Tottenham have quality attacking players at their disposal and someone like Slot could get the best out of them in the coming seasons. The 44-year-old will be hoping to win the league title at Feyenoord now and finalise a move to the Premier League in the summer.
