Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old left-back will be out of contract soon, and a report from GMS claims that Tottenham appear to be the most interested club in securing his signature.

Tottenham could use Tyrick Mitchell

The England International has done quite well for Crystal Palace, and he has five assists in all competitions this season. He could prove to be an excellent acquisition for Tottenham. They need more depth in the defensive unit, and the 25-year-old could compete with Destiny Udogie for the starting spot.

The Italian has been inconsistent this season, and more competition for places would be ideal. In addition to that, Ben Davies will be out of contract in the summer, and Tottenham could use another left-sided defender.

Mitchell is a proven performer in the Premier League, and he could make an instant impact at the London club. The opportunity to join them could be attractive for him. If they manage to win the UEFA Europa League and secure Champions League qualification for the next season, Tottenham will be an attractive destination for most players.

Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer would represent a huge bargain as well.

The defender is highly rated across England, and he has been previously labelled as someone who is fantastic in one-versus-one situations defensively.

Crystal Palace coach Richard Shaw described him as: “The first thing I look for in a full-back is defending, and he was a fantastic one v one defender. Very similar to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in that sense. He was very difficult to beat.”

Spurs have looked vulnerable at the back, and they could use someone with his skill set who can contribute at both ends of the pitch.

It will be interesting to see if they can secure an agreement for the player in the coming weeks.
