Pundit urges Tottenham to sign Newcastle star who shined against them

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s hopes for a top-four finish took a significant blow as they suffered a massive 4-0 defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The setback at St. James’ Park saw Spurs drop out of the top four of the Premier League table, slipping down to 5th place.

Alexander Isak was the standout performer of the afternoon, scoring a goal in each half and proving to be the decisive factor in the match.

O’Hara urges Tottenham to sign Isak

Former Spurs midfielder turned pundit Jamie O’Hara was thoroughly impressed by the performance of the Swedish forward and voiced a strong desire to see him playing for the North London outfit next season.

While O’Hara isn’t the only one who believes Isak would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham, ex-Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor shares the same sentiment.

Acknowledging Isak’s susceptibility to injuries as a worry, O’Hara highlighted the striker’s quality when he’s fit, describing him as “one of the top players in the league.”

Speaking on talkSPORT, the pundit stated:

“I would give everything to sign him. We [Tottenham] won’t do it because we won’t put our hands in our pockets.

“Anyone would have him. The only problem with him is his injury. That’s the problem with him. He picks up too many injuries. You are never going to get a full season out of him, but when he plays, when he is fit, he is one of the best players in the league.”

Isak has been in superb form in the current English top-flight season, sharing the third spot in the top scorer list, with 17 goals and one assist in 24 appearances.

The 24-year-old holds an impressive current market value of €70 million and is contracted with the Magpies until the summer of 2028.

Spurs are reportedly keen on securing a forward in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the ongoing search still aiming to find a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

With his imposing height of 6 feet 4 inches, Isak could be an excellent addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad, bringing the ideal profile needed for a proper number 9.
