Tottenham urged to sign 6ft 1in goalkeeper to replace Lloris

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to former footballers turned pundits Craig Burley and Stevie Nicol, Tottenham Hotspur should consider signing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a replacement for their current goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.

The two analysts told ESPN that ‘Pickford is better than Hugo Lloris’, citing his recent error-prone performances and decline in form.

It is reported that Antonio Conte is interested in signing Pickford from Everton.

Burley acknowledged that Pickford is not a “brilliant” goalkeeper, but he believes that he makes ‘fewer mistakes’ than Lloris.

The 50-cap England international has been outstanding for his country and has never put a foot wrong. In two World Cups and at Euro 2020, he has stood tall and proved his worth.

However, the criticism of the former Sunderland man comes from his performances on the domestic stage.

For the most part, during the past two seasons, he has been one of Everton’s best players, which doesn’t take much given their struggles.

But those error-prone ways are still there, including punching at thin air during Everton’s defeat to Bournemouth prior to the World Cup.

It’s clear that with Lloris’s recent errors and decline in form, those at Hotspur Way are going to look for a long-term replacement for their long-serving player.

Pickford’s name has been mentioned as a potential option.

With his international experience, Pickford could be a solid addition to the Tottenham squad and could provide competition for Lloris.

However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will make a move for the goalkeeper and if Everton is willing to let him go.
