John Wenham has urged Tottenham Hotspur to part ways with Giovani Lo Celso in the summer.
The North London club forked out a significant amount to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis back in the day. A lot was expected from the Argentine attacking midfielder but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations.
Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham believes, the 28-year-old’s time at Tottenham has been a complete disaster and he wants the club to cash in on him ahead of next season.
While talking to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Lo Celso has been a complete disaster for Tottenham. I’m not interested in what he can do for Argentina, I only care about what he does in a Tottenham shirt.
“It does seem like Real Betis are interested in him. They look likely to lose Fekir and they probably see Lo Celso as a direct replacement. I’m sure he would excel there, I just don’t think the Premier League is suited for him.
“Therefore, the best possible thing would be to get him out of the club. Once he leaves, his time will be viewed in the same way as Tanguy Ndombele’s time at the club – a complete disaster.”
Lo Celso joined Spurs back in the summer of 2019, it was an initial loan deal which was made permanent next summer. While he did showcase glimpses of the talent he possesses, the Argentine international couldn’t establish himself in their first team.
He has had multiple loan spells away from the club in the recent past. Lo Celso ended up staying at the club for the 2023/24 season. While Ange Postecoglou did involve him in 24 matches, he was on the pitch for less than 600 minutes.
With the 28-year-old surplus to requirement and his contract running out in a year’s time, this is the best possible time for Spurs to recoup a part of the money they had invested to bring him to the club.
The move has been a complete disaster according to Wenham and now they can’t risk losing him for a fee in 12 months time. With Real Betis and Atletico Madrid keen on his signature, Daniel Levy needs to ensure he capitalises on their interest.
