Tottenham Hotspur signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens during the January transfer window.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been sent back on loan at the Swedish club and he will join up with the North London outfit at the end of the season.
The CEO of Futbol Gran Canaria, Kevin Perez heaped praise on the new Tottenham signing. Perez revealed in an interview with Marca that the Tottenham midfielder is a combination of Frenkie De Jong and Pedri. Both Barcelona midfielders are regarded as world-class players and that is huge praise for the Tottenham signing.
He said: “Physically and football-wise he bears a great resemblance to Frenkie de Jong. And not only because of that blonde hair. Also because of the way he drives the ball with his head high and his elegant stride when driving. Tactically I would say that he has things like Pedri : he understands the game well, enjoys between the lines and knows at all times where his teammates are.”
Bergvall is a technically gifted central midfielder and he could prove to be a solid, long-term prospect for the north London club in the coming seasons. It will be interesting to see if he can adapt to English football quickly and make an immediate impact next season. He is expected to be a part of the first-team squad next season.
Spanish giants Barcelona were very keen on securing his services during the January transfer window, but Tottenham managed to beat them to his signature. They convinced the 18-year-old that a move to England would be better for his development in the coming seasons.
Tottenham have not put together an impressive pool of young talent at the club for the future and it remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou can get the best out of these prodigious talents.
