Tottenham are keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Football Insider.
The report reveals that Tottenham ‘scouts watched’ the 20-year-old during their Champions League win over Celtic and are looking to step up their pursuit of the defender.
According to the report, Spurs were also interested in signing him in 2020, but RB Leipzig beat them to it for ‘£18 million on a buy-to-loan deal.’
The Croatia international’s current contract does not expire until the summer of 2027 but the is reported to have a ‘£44million release clause’.
Chelsea, who recently signed a pre-contract agreement with RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, are also said to be keeping ‘close tabs’ on Gvardiol.
Leeds United have also been interested in the player for a long-time according to the report and their manager Jesse Marsch knows Gvardiol well from his time working in the Red Bull multi-club network.
However, a move to Leeds is unlikely since the player is expected to join an elite European club competing in the Champions League.
The young defender has been hailed as an ‘extraordinary talent‘ by former Bayern striker and Croatia international Ivica Olic.
