Tottenham to step up efforts for 23-yr-old in summer, asking price could drop by 40%

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher throughout the January transfer window.

A move did not materialise during the winter transfer window but Tottenham will step up their efforts to sign the 23-year-old in the summer.

A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham have already held extensive talks with the Blues regarding a move for the midfielder, but the asking price made it difficult to complete a deal.

Chelsea were reportedly demanding £80 million for the player in January. However, the asking price could drop down to £50 million in the summer, nearly 40% less than the original asking price.

Gallagher will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season and Chelsea will be under pressure to sell him for more reasonable price. They will not want to lose him on a free transfer.

It will be interesting to see if they can convince the player to commit his long-term future to the club. There have been rumours of a potential contract extension, but the two parties have not been able to secure an agreement yet.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for Chelsea this season and he has made 29 appearance across all competitions. He has also captained the side on multiple occasions because of the injury to Reece James.

There is no doubt that he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for the north London club. Tottenham need more quality and depth in the middle of the park and Gallagher would be the ideal fit for them. His work rate and pressing ability make some a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.
