Tottenham to rival Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign £43m attacker

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur could now join the race to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club Bilbao at the end of the season.

A report from the Mirror claims that Arsenal and Chelsea are already keen on the 21-year-old attacker and Spurs could look to rival them.

Williams has a £43 million release clause in his contract and Tottenham certainly have the financial means to pay up. It remains to be seen whether they are prepared to sign the versatile forward in the summer.

The 21-year-old has been a key for the Spanish club, scoring six goals this season and picking up 11 assists across all competitions. He has the technical ability to succeed in the Premier League and he could add a new dimension to the Tottenham attack.

The North London outfit could certainly use his explosive pace and ability to take on defenders. He will add more cutting edge going forward and Williams will also help Tottenham breakdown stubborn defences.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League could be an exciting one for the young winger. Ange Postecoglou has introduced a free-flowing attacking style of football at Tottenham and Williams could thrive in his system.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can beat the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to his signature.

All three clubs have the financial muscle to pay his release clause but Williams might be keen on joining a club with Champions League football next season. Therefore, Arsenal and Tottenham (if they finish in the top four) could have an advantage in the race.

Arsenal need to add more depth in the attack so that they can rotate Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka more often. Williams would be a quality long-term investment for them. At Chelsea, he could be an upgrade on players like Raheem Sterling who have been largely underwhelming this season.
