Tottenham to rival Liverpool and Newcastle for the services of ex-Manchester United star Angel Gomes.
While things didn’t work out for Gomes at Manchester United, the move to LOSC Lille gave him an opportunity to revive himself. The attacking midfielder has got things back on track and he has been doing wonders for the French club.
He was recently handed his first cap for the England national team and scouts from multiple top clubs were present in the stands to watch Gomes in action. According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham scouts had their eyes on the 24-year-old during the international break. The North London club seem keen on his signature and they are willing to battle Liverpool and Newcastle for his services.
Scouts from all three Premier League clubs were in the stands to watch Gomes make his first start for the Three Lions on Tuesday (10th September) against Finland. His consistent performances and his ability to feature in any role in the centre of the park have received a lot of plaudits. With Gomes’ contract running out in less than 10 months’ time, the English clubs have the opportunity to discuss a potential free transfer in January.
Having parted ways with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp, Tottenham are a bit light in the centre of the park and Gomes could be a great addition to their squad. He can feature in any role in midfield and Ange Postecoglou would love to have someone who can give him tactical flexibility. But Spurs won’t find it easy to sign him as the Reds and the Magpies will give them a tough time in the race for his signature.
