Tottenham to battle Newcastle for versatile attacker who has played with Son

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to the move for the Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Hwang Hee-chan.

The 27-year-old South Korean international has done reasonably well for Wolves this season and Tottenham could look to make a move for him in the coming weeks.

A report from the Mirror claims that Spurs will face competition from Newcastle United. The two clubs are looking to add more quality and depth to their attack and the 27-year-old could prove to be a useful option.

Hee-chan can operate as a winger as well as a striker and his versatility will be an added bonus for the two sides.

Newcastle certainly have more financial resources compared to Tottenham and they have secured Champions League qualification as well. It is fair to assume that they could be in the lead as far as the transfer race is concerned. Hee-chan could compete with Allan Saint-Maximin for the left-wing berth next season.

However, the opportunity to play alongside top-class players like Harry Kane could be a tempting proposition for the South Korean international. Furthermore, he would get to reunite with his compatriot Son Heung-min at the club level if he joined Tottenham.

Spurs have been overly reliant on Kane for goals this season and they need to add more options to their attacking unit. The likes of Son and Richarlison have not been able to hit top form and increased competition for places will get the best out of the squad.

As for Hee-chan, a move to Tottenham or Newcastle would be a step up in his career and he would get to showcase his qualities at a higher level.
