Tottenham Hotspur are desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements and they have identified the French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo as a target.
A report from Evening Standard claims that Manchester United and Liverpool are keen on the French international as well but Tottenham are ready to battle it out with their Premier League rivals.
The 23-year-old has been a key player for French outfit OGC Nice since joining them and he is available for a fee of around £39 million.
Tottenham signed Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips during the summer transfer window and the Dutchman has proven to be an exceptional addition. He established himself as a key player for Tottenham but the player is now sidelined with a serious injury and Tottenham need to bring in defensive reinforcements.
Signing another quality central defender should be a top priority for them in January and Todibo would be a quality acquisition.
He has proven his quality with club and country over the past year and he is certainly good enough to succeed in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can beat their Premier League rivals and secure his services.
The £39 million asking price seems reasonable for a player of his quality in today’s market. Todibo is only 23 and he is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. He could sort out the Tottenham defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
The report from Evening Standard claims that Tottenham are keeping tabs on the likes of Lloyd Kelly, Marc Guehi and Jarrad Branthwaite as well.
Apparently, Todibo is keen on a move to the Premier League but he will seek game-time assurances before the transfer. He wants to establish himself as a key starter for his country and he will not want to sit on the bench in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can satisfy the player and his club now.
Meanwhile, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire have been linked with exits and Manchester United need quality defenders as well. Todibo would be a quality addition to Erik ten Hag’s side as well. As for Liverpool, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are the only reliable central defenders at their disposal.
Both clubs need a quality defender and Todibo would improve them immensely.
