Tottenham Hotspur are now closing in on a deal to sign James Maddison from Leicester City.
According to a report from the Athletic, Tottenham are now heavy favourites to sign the player despite interest from Newcastle United. Maddison would be Tottenham’s third summer signing after Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario.
The two clubs are currently locked in talks and their working to secure an agreement. Tottenham are ready to submit an offer of around £40 million despite a £60 million asking price.
Given the fact that the 26-year-old has just one year left on his current contract with the Foxes, it is fair to assume that Leicester will eventually reduce their asking price.
Personal terms will not be an issue and Tottenham are hoping to secure an agreement with the players club first.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims that the North London giants have already agreed on personal terms with the player and negotiations with his club are finally ‘advancing’.
Talks are underway between the two parties and the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ‘very active’ on the deal. The Tottenham chairman is looking to get the transfer ‘done as soon as possible’.

Spurs need to add creativity and goals in the middle of the park and Maddison would solve a lot of their problems.
The 26-year-old is a proven performer in the Premier League and he could make an immediate impact at Tottenham. He finished the campaign with 10 goals and nine assists last season, despite Leicester City’s relegation.
There is no doubt that he deserves to play in the top flight, and a move to Tottenham would be the ideal next step in his career.
