Potential investors could “end up walking away” from Tottenham because of Levy

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a potential takeover in recent months.

There have been rumours that they are on the radar of the Qatari Sports Investment organisation, but finance expert Kieran Maguire has suggested that they could walk away from any potential deal because of the way Daniel Levy negotiates.

The Tottenham chairman has a reputation for being a fierce negotiator and he values the club at around £3.75 billion. Although Tottenham are a lucrative option for most investors and they have exceptional facilities in place, Levy might have to be more flexible in order for any takeover to go through.

“I think Spurs are the perfect proposition for any significant investor with cash to burn,” Maguire told TBR.

“All of the investment can go into talent recruitment because Spurs have got a 21st-century stadium, so you aren’t diverted by cash going elsewhere.

“The club is in London, so they have the benefits that bring for a variety of stakeholders in the game.

“Really, it is the case that Levy has tried to hold out for too much on deals in the past, however.

“The downside is that if you do go into negotiations, does the prospective buyer end up walking away from the table because of intransigence on the sale side.”

There is no doubt that a takeover would be ideal for Tottenham right now. The squad is in need of major investment if they are to compete with the elite clubs. Signing world-class players will require substantial funds and the Qatari organisation could bankroll a spending spree at the North London club.

Tottenham have not won major trophies for quite some time the fans are clearly impatient. A change of ownership could bring about some much-needed morale boost and lift the spirits around the club.

It will be interesting to see if any potential investor is ready to accelerate their efforts to buy the club and open talks with Levy in the coming months.
