Tottenham star slammed for his ‘arrogance’ after yet another lackluster performance

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former England and Newcastle striker, Alan Shearer, has slammed Tottenham’s Brazilian forward, Richarlison, describing him as someone who would “aggravate” his own teammates.

Shearer’s comments came after his lackluster performance in Tottenham’s recent game against Sheffield United, where he was starting in place of regular striker Harry Kane.

Richarlison failed to make any significant impact on the game and was substituted at the hour mark. Shearer was quick to point out his woeful performance, stating that his teammates would be frustrated with his lack of contribution to the team.

While discussing the game on BBC One, he said:

“It might aggravate to play with him and against him because at times I just think his teammates will think ‘give us a little bit more’. Some of his touches, the ability he has, you want more out of him. But he gives that air of arrogance.”

The Brazilian signed for Tottenham in a club record £60 million fee but has so far failed to live up to expectations. In his 22 appearances in all competitions, he has only managed to score two goals, both of which came against Marseille during the Champions League group stages.

His lack of form has seen him relegated to the bench for most of the season, with the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, and Kulusevski all ahead of him in the pecking order. And even when he has started, he has failed to make any significant impact on the game.

It’s a far cry from his time at Everton, where he was a regular starter and a prolific striker. But since moving to Tottenham, he has had to adapt to a new team and a new role on the bench, which has clearly affected his form.

With manager Antonio Conte expected to leave the club in the summer, there is a chance that a change in manager or style of play could help Richarlison regain his form from his Everton days. However, for now, he is proving to be a flop for Tottenham, and his performances are doing little to justify the hefty price tag the club paid for him.
