Tottenham player is ‘unhappy’ at the club and wants to call it quits this summer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso wants to leave the club at the end of the season.

That is according to the latest from Football Insider, who report that the player is ‘unhappy’ with his situation at the club.

The report says that the Argentine international wants to quit due to the limited playing time at the club.

The report adds that Spurs are eager to sell Lo Celso to raise funds, as the attacking midfielder is not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

With midfield options like Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Hojbjerg, Bissouma, and Pape Matar Sarr available for Postecoglou, it appears likely that Lo Celso could be offloaded.

Lo Celso has had limited playing time

The 27-year-old has found it challenging to secure regular opportunities for the Lilywhites this season, featuring in just 14 Premier League matches while seeing only 441 minutes on the pitch.

Despite Lo Celso making an impact in his limited playing time, contributing with two goals and two assists, he has not been consistently included in the starting XI, having made only four starts, which accounts for just 14% of the games.

The injury history of the former PSG midfielder has also compounded his situation, as he has been sidelined for 11 games this season due to hamstring and muscle injuries.

Tottenham secured Lo Celso on a season-long loan from Real Betis in the summer of 2019 for a loan fee of €16 million before finalising the permanent deal in January the following year for an additional transfer fee of €32 million.

Lo Celso was strongly linked with Barcelona in January

He was strongly linked with a move to La Liga in the summer as well as in January, with Barcelona emerging as one of the clubs interested in him.

Aston Villa were previously also among the clubs linked with his former manager Unai Emery said to be keen on reuniting with him.

With less than 18 months remaining on his Spurs contract, which is set to expire in June of the following year, Spurs will be looking to cash in on him, and he should not be sort of suitors.
