This past summer, Tottenham Hotspur made a significant investment when they bought Cristian Romero for €50 million-plus and a further €5 million in add-ons from Atalanta to be an anchor on their backline.
Romero has settled into Premier League and under manager Antonio Conte. Furthermore, he added that the decision to come to Spurs was the right one in his eyes.
“I have to say I’m pleased with the decision to come to Tottenham. It’s a wonderful city here in London and a wonderful club,” Romero said in an interview printed in the club’s matchday program for Sunday’s win against Burnley, per Football.London.
“A club with a growing mentality that’s actually helping me to grow on a personal level. I can say the same about the league, which is the best in the world.”
Romero also spoke about how the Tottenham supporters have helped him feel welcome and played a role in him adapting to the club and his new situation in north London.
“I’m very happy to be here. The way the club is treating me – the staff, the fans – is brilliant and for me, that means I’m doing my job well. I hope things continue in this way and we can finish the season positively,” Romero added.
Spurs will hope that Romero can avoid the injury bug next season, allowing him to hit the ground running, especially if they clinch UEFA Champions League football next season by finishing in the top four.
Tottenham will lean heavily in these matches and hope that Romero will be up to the task of going up against some of the better clubs in Europe.
Great game.
That’s true especially if Winky moves on we’ll need a homegrown to replace him.
Doing the business tonight too.
Yes because you can’t fill your team with just foreign players.
We must have scouts here too though.
I’ve watched the three of them a lot too, and I think they fit perfectly to what we need but also they are young and will be cheaper options than many others out there which has to be taken into account.
Johnson just scored too!
He’s a helluva prospect.
Think we may get a swap deal for LoSellOn ..Pao Torres maybe..
New signings they ain’t..
As ever if there is a cheap Mr Byrite alternative ..though we do need home grown players ..time to bin off the Strangelove Operative Winky ..60 k a week to polish boots ffs.
I like those players too but not sure Paratici’s sphere of expertise is in England as so far all of his signings – Kulu, Bentancur, Romero, Gil, Golini, Sarr, Royal – have come from primarily Italy and Spain.
Been watching Forest a lot (will tonight too) and yes they are good, exciting young players. Trouble is if they get promoted (and they deserve too) we’re talking home grown talent with a PL price tag which will send Levy scuttling for cover. If they fail then we should snap them both up.
I like Cucarella and it makes you wonder why our scouts don’t find players like this, instead of dreary WB’s like Royal.(though tbf he was bought for Nuno’s system.
Irrespective of which European competition we find ourselves in, I’d like a big change in personnel with at least 6 new recruits, however with the whole issue regarding manager and many of the squad up in the air then who knows.
Three players who would improve the squad imo;
Djed Spence : RWB ( M’Boro)
Marc Cucurella LWB (Brighton)
Brennan Johnson AM/F (N.Forest)
Same old same old.
In terms of transfers:
What I’d like to see this summer: 5-9 real NEW signings: backup/future GK, left-sided CB, pair of wingbacks, CAM, backup for Harry, some depth/squad guys for the cups. Would be nice to let the guys on loan leave permanently – Gil, LoCelso, Tanguy, CCV – and get back some players from their new clubs that Conte can use.
What I expect to see – “NEW” signings of Romero and Kulu, 3-4 other real signings from Serie A and B, 1-2 other signings from Google. All done at the end of the window. Tanguy and Gio training alone somewhere in Eastern Europe.
No surprise. We all saw this coming.
Levy’s PR team already spinning the usual.Talking about Romero and Kulu being signed permanently as if they are new additions.
A very good signing
Romero is going to be massive for us, Conte has benefitted from 3 good signings.
