Tottenham star considering a contract offer from La Liga outfit

By Bruce Grove -

Real Betis has become the latest team to show an interest in the soon-to-be free agent, Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian is edging towards the last month of his current deal with Tottenham, although that may be extended until the end of the season, whenever that may be.

Vertonghen appeals to teams looking to add experience to their side without spending anything on transfer fees and several reports have already linked the likes of Inter Milan and AS Roma with a move for him.

However, a report in the Star claims that Spanish side, Real Betis are the frontrunners to sign Vertonghen and after holding talks with his representatives, they have decided to give him a two-year deal when his current contract expires.

The 33-year-old has played 19 Premier League games and three times in the Champions League this season, that is a reduction to the number of minutes that he usually gets and it could signal that Mourinho is already planning for life without him next season.

Tottenham will look to bring in some new faces in the summer and if they lose Vertonghen, a new defender might be part of the expected signings

Stay Jan.. Prove there is still life in the old dog yet.. Sheringham was in his 40s playing in the prem and that was up top.. Intelligent players and players who don’t rely on pace can stay top level into their 30s. Knowledge of diet, nutrition, training, sports science, as long as players look after them selves they can go well into their 30s.. Especially a centre back like Jan.. Just one injury or two and he will be needed.

Free agents hold most of the cards now, even at 33 he’ll be in demand, don’t see Levy giving him a two year deal.
