Tottenham set to battle it out with Chelsea for 18-yr-old PL prodigy

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

A report from the Sun claims that Tottenham are eyeing up a move for the 18-year-old striker as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

The 29-year-old England international has a contract with the London club until the summer of 2024 and Spurs have not managed to agree on an extension yet.

If Kane decides to move on at the end of the season, Tottenham will have to replace him adequately.

While the 18-year-old Brighton striker might not be able to replace Kane’s output immediately, he could be a quality long-term investment for Spurs.

Meanwhile, the report adds that Tottenham will face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea as well.

The Blues need to bring in a reliable goal scorer with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang expected to leave the club soon.

Even if Kane ends up staying at Tottenham, the Londoners should look to bring in someone like Ferguson who can share the goal-scoring burden alongside the England international.

The 18-year-old has impressed with Brighton this season and he has the ability to thrive at a top club as well.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince the Seagulls to part with their prized prospect at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have more financial resources compared to Tottenham and the Blues could have an edge in the transfer cheese. That said, Tottenham are better placed to secure Champions League qualification, and that could prove to be decisive in any potential transfer.
