Tottenham have emerged as serious contenders to sign former Man City attacker Leroy Sane.
That is according to the latest from Caughtoffside, who claim Bayern have all but given up on keeping Sane after trying their best to tie the Germany international down to a new contract, with his current deal about to expire.
Sane is set to become a free agent come end season and Spurs are reportedly showing keen interest in signing him, but they face competition from other clubs including Barcelona.
It was reported last week that the North London club have already started talks to sign the Premier League winner on a free transfer, which has put them in a strong position to sign the German international.
Sane was a key player for Manchester City and played a key role in their success in the past, scoring 39 goals and assisting 43 in 135 games across all competitions for the club. He also became an instrumental figure in the Bayern Munich side, continuing his form in the Bundesliga where he has scored 56 goals and assisted another 51 in 202 games across all competitions. Tottenham are expected to make significant changes in the attack, with reports suggesting they are considering getting rid of Richarlison, Heung-min Son and TImo Werner at the end of the season.
Signing a player of Sane’s calibre on a free transfer would be a masterstroke and an instant upgrade if Tottenham can get the deal done.
They have already signed Mathys Tel on loan, who has made an instant impact with a lovely goal against Aston Villa. If they decide to sign the Frenchman permanently, they would have two top class attackers to instantly replace the likes of Richarlison and Timo Werner.
It remains to be seen whether the club can beat competition to sign Sane on a free transfer at the end of the season.
