Tottenham Hotspur could now be handed the opportunity to sign Savinho from Manchester City during the January transfer window.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to the north London club during the summer transfer, but Manchester City refused to let him leave.

They are now expected to sign Antoine Semenyo for £65 million from Bournemouth, and that could open the door for the South American to move on. He needs regular football in order to develop further, and sitting on the bench at Manchester City will not benefit him.

Tottenham need more quality on the flanks, and Savinho could be ideal for them. He has the technical attributes to compete at the highest level, and he could be a key player for them. Savinho has been hailed as “incredible” by Pep Guardiola.

Savinho set for exit?

Dean Jones said: “If City win the race to sign Semenyo, I really do think there is fresh doubt about Savinho’s place in the squad.

“It’ll be a big decision because they only just gave him a new deal, but I still question why they did that.

“Tottenham definitely made a mark on him, and from what I’m told, he seemed interested, because he would become such a significant player for them.

“City also have a decision to make on Oscar Bobb if offers come in, and it’s a situation where I can potentially see some movement.

“But I do think the interest in Savinho is still there from Spurs if their other targets like Semenyo, Maghnes Akliouche and Yan Diomande prove out of reach.”

Can Tottenham get the deal done?

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham follow up on their interest with an official offer to get the deal done. If they can sign the player for a reasonable amount of money, the deal could prove to be a masterstroke.

The Brazilian is still quite young, and he has a bright future. He could develop into a top-class player with the right guidance. He will be hoping to establish himself as an important player for club and country. Regular football at Tottenham could help him cement his place in the Brazilian squad for the upcoming World Cup as well.
