Boost for Tottenham in their pursuit of Premier League star as club plans to exploit rivals’ financial troubles

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has been a priority target for Spurs since last summer, but the move has yet to materialise, even after two transfer windows.

According to the latest from Football Insider, Spurs are considering the Englishman for a potential summer move.

The report claims that the club retains a ‘concrete interest’ in the midfielder and plan to exploit their rivals’ need to raise emergency funds to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations, potentially giving them an edge in negotiations.

Gallagher has less than 18 months remaining on his Chelsea contract, which is set to expire in June next year. With no contract extension on the cards as yet, the attacking midfielder will be free to negotiate with suitors in the upcoming summer.

Although Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino considers the 24-year-old a crucial part of his squad and aims to build the team around the English core of players, including Gallagher, the club reportedly are willing to sell him for the right price.

There were reports of the Argentine manager working behind the scenes to offer the Cobham academy graduate a new contract to secure his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The England International has been one of the first names on Pochettino’s team sheet this season, featuring in the starting XI for all 24 Premier League games he has been available for in the ongoing campaign. Additionally, he has contributed two goals and four assists.

It would be intriguing to see if the Lilywhites can tempt their London rivals’ current captain to join them.
