Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu.
According to a report from TuttoJuve, the 25-year-old Frenchman is highly ‘sought after’ and clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle are ‘pursuing’ him.
The defender will cost around €30 million (£26m), and it is fair to assume that Tottenham have the resources to get the deal done.
Do Spurs need Pierre Kalulu?
They have added adequate depth to the defensive unit, and it would be surprising if they decided to make a move for another central defender. They need to improve the other areas of the pitch.
Spurs need to improve their attacking unit. Signing another reliable goalscorer would be ideal for them. Investing in another defender would not make a lot of sense. They have first-team central defenders, and young players like Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips on their books as well.
While there is no doubt that the Serie A star is good enough for the Premier League, and he could help most teams improve, Spurs don’t really need him.
Kalulu will not start for them ahead of Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven. The French defender will not want to sit on the bench at the English club. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. Moving to Tottenham is unlikely to be an attractive option for him either.
Newcastle keen on Kalulu

On the other hand, Newcastle might be a more suitable destination. They need to tighten up at the back, and the 25-year-old will help them.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can improve the other areas of their squad and fight for major trophies.
Kalulu needs to join a club where he will play regularly and compete at a high level. Newcastle have the project to help him fulfil his ambitions.
