Tottenham ‘prepared to pay’ £40 million for 26-year-old ‘priority target’

Tottenham are now looking to ramp up their pursuit of the Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The 26-year-old has been linked with Newcastle as well but it seems that Tottenham are ready to steal a march on their rivals.

A report from the Telegraph claims that Tottenham are ‘prepared to pay’ £40 million for the 26-year-old midfielder and that he is a ‘priority target’.

Leicester reportedly value the player at £60 million and it will be interesting to see if they are ready to lower their demands.

Maddison will want to play in the Premier League next year and moving to Tottenham will certainly be an attractive option for him.

Tottenham have a quality squad at their disposal and despite a disappointing campaign last year, they are capable of qualifying for the Champions League and competing for trophies.

Tottenham have appointed a new manager in Ange Postecoglou and the 57-year-old Australian prefers free-flowing attacking football. Maddison would be an excellent fit for his style of play and the 26-year-old will add goals and creativity to the side.

Spurs have missed a specialist playmaker like him since the departure of Christian Eriksen and Maddison could solve a lot of their attacking problems.

Signing a quality creator like him could also get the best out of players like Son Heung-min and Richarlison, players who struggled to hit the top firm last season.

If Spurs manage to sign a Premier League-proven midfielder for £40 million, it could prove to be a bargain for them in the coming seasons.
