Tottenham player ratings – dreadful display reflected in stinging ratings

By Bruce Grove -

What can one say after that shower of rubbish that was served up this evening by Tottenham? There will be no sympathy shown in the Tottenham player ratings after that display.

It was abysmal, it was humiliating, it was plain awful and there is no use looking for excuses, even though there are enough there for us to find solace in.

Tottenham was rank poor and Sheffield United fully deserved their win, they defended better and were far more clinical in front of goal, that is the brutal truth.

Here are the Tottenham player ratings

Hugo Lloris 5

Can’t really fault him for the goals but letting in three is not good and he needs to do a better job marshalling the defence in front of him.

Ben Davies 4

Outplayed down the left by Mousset, what more is there to say.

Eric Dier 4

Was found wanting too often by a mediocre Sheffield forward line, was to blame for at least one goal.

Davinson Sanchez 4

Left standing for the third goal, the jury is still very much out on whether he should be a starter.

Serge Aurier 4

Another poor game, how many is he going to have before he is dropped for, well, anybody.

Moussa Sissoko 5

Faded dramatically in the second half and offered almost nothing going forward and did not track back for at least one goal.

Giovani Lo Celso 5

Worst game in a Tottenham shirt, let’s hope this is a one-off.

Steve Bergwijn 5

Terrible first touch and even though he was busy offered very little creativity

Lucas Moura 5

No end product which is becoming a little too often for my liking,

Son Heung-min 5

Definitely faded and he seems a blunted player since the restart, not sure he is a happy player anymore.

Harry Kane 6

Not quite back to his best but the signs are there, was the best Spurs player on the night with an average performance, that says it all.

Subs

Erik Lamela 6

Was not on that long but did better than most of his teammates this evening apart from Kane.

Tanguy Ndombele 5

Not on long enough and the game was gone really by the time he was introduced.

Dele Alli 5

The same situation as Ndombele really

Jan Vertonghen NA

Not on long enough for a rating

Manager

Jose Mourinho 3

This defeat is more on him than anyone else, he set the tactics and strategy and it failed miserably, his style of football does not suit these players.

To be successful at anything you must ‘want to ‘, these players look as though they really are not that interested .

Maybe it’s just a bad day at the office. That’s about as much hope and enthusiasm I can summon up. If Mourinho believes the guff he comes out with at press conferences about being happy with the team and having a wonderful bench and not expecting many new signings then we really are done for.

Wilder has taken a bunch of championship standard players, made them super fit and drilled them so they know their own job and everyone else’s. Fair play, well done. We have a manager famed for being a genius. How come he can’t get a tune out of international players? He coached Cryuff’s philosophy at Barca, yet we look devoid of any attacking ideas and we had more than enough attacking options today. I think it was a big mistake putting Bergwijn as a 10, Lamela deserved to start there. The big issue though is defending. It pains me that Jose can’t get the basics out of that back 4 today. Abysmal.

How can Jose bench 9 of them for the next game though!

You could argue that both N’Dombele and Dele justified the manager’s decision to leave them on the bench for kickoff.

I think Aurier had 6 great opportunities to put in a convincing cross. He missed every one. The one he knocked into the stand in the first half was atrocious. If anyone signs him in the Summer they must be stupid!

Lo Celso a 5! I’d give him 3. If there are fans out there thinking this is the way forward and the right way to go I hope that changed your mind. No positives whatsoever.
