Tottenham player looking to run down his contract and leave for free

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 29-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season and a report from football insider claims that talks regarding a new contract have collapsed.

The player now wants to leave the North London club as a free agent instead of leaving for a nominal price in January.

The England international has not had any game time this season and he will be hoping to get his career back on track with regular football once again.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince the player to leave the club in January.

The north London outfit signed Ashley Phillips and Micky van de Ven during the summer transfer window and Dier has fallen down the pecking order. He is unlikely to get ample opportunities at Tottenham for the remainder of the campaign and it would be wise of the player to move on in January.

With the European Championships coming up next summer, the 30-year-old needs to play regularly in order to cement his place in the England starting lineup.

Sitting on the bench at Tottenham will not be beneficial to him in any way.

He has been a useful player for Tottenham over the years but the 30-year-old is clearly on the decline and it makes sense for Tottenham to cash in on him in January.
