Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed that academy goalkeeper Luca Gunter will join Vanarama National League side Wealdstone on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper has been a standout figure in Spurs’ youth setup, making seven appearances this season across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy for the Under-21s.
This loan move offers Gunter a valuable opportunity to gain senior football experience while bolstering Wealdstone’s campaign in the National League.
Gunter began his footballing journey at Queens Park Rangers before joining Tottenham’s academy at the age of 12. Over the years, his talent and leadership abilities have earned him recognition, both domestically and internationally.
The young goalkeeper has represented England across multiple age groups, from the Under-15s to the Under-19s, and received a call-up to the England Under-20 Elite Squad in October 2023.
Gunter has enjoyed significant success at the academy level, captaining Tottenham’s Under-18 side to a memorable double, securing the U17 and U18 Premier League Cups. He also played a pivotal role in Tottenham’s Under-21 team lifting the Premier League 2 title last season.
Speaking about his loan move, Gunter expressed his enthusiasm for the chance to play regular senior football. He emphasized his commitment to contributing to Wealdstone’s ambitions while honing his skills in a competitive environment.
This loan aligns with Tottenham’s broader strategy of providing young players with pathways to develop and transition into senior football. For Gunter, the move marks a significant step forward in his career as he looks to make a lasting impression at the professional level.
Tottenham’s goalkeeping department has seen significant changes this month. Following injuries to first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario and backup Fraser Forster, Spurs secured the signing of Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.
Kinsky, who made an immediate impact with a stellar debut performance in the League Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool, has given fans a glimmer of hope during an otherwise challenging season.
Tottenham in desperate need of signings this month
The North London side currently sits 15th in the Premier League table, much closer to the relegation zone than the coveted top-four spots. Manager Ange Postecoglou is under pressure as injuries to key players continue to derail Tottenham’s season.
While the club hierarchy reportedly remains supportive of Postecoglou, understanding the injury crisis he has faced, the need for reinforcements in the January transfer window is becoming increasingly urgent.
