Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
According to reports we covered recently, the North London outfit have submitted an offer of around €60 million for the Dutch international midfielder.
However, a report from Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness claims that Barcelona will not sanction his departure below €100 million.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to raise their offer by €40 million in the summer. The 26-year-old is undoubtedly a world-class central midfielder, and he could improve the North London club immensely. He will add craft, control and drive in the middle of the park.
Spurs are currently missing a technically gifted midfielder like him, and he could take them to a whole new level. Tottenham will need world-class players like him if they want to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
De Jong has proven himself with club and country in recent years and there is no doubt that he’s good enough for the Premier League. The midfielder excelled in Ajax’s attacking system before his move to Barcelona and he could be the ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s high-intensity attacking football as well.
Tottenham have been quite active in the transfer market since the managerial change and they will have to be more ambitious in order to land players like De Jong.
Barcelona are going through financial difficulties and they could look to sell a key player if a substantial offer is presented. This is a good opportunity for Tottenham to land a top class player like De Jong and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
