Tottenham monitoring the development of a striker hailed as the ‘next Erling Haaland’

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur last summer conducted business that saw them grab two players who have raw talent but need more time to develop. Bryan Gil only lasted a few months before being loaned out to Valencia, and there are questions over his future.

Meanwhile, the other player is Pape Matar Sarr, who is returning from a loan stint with FC Metz, and the jury is still out on whether he has a place in the midfield, which will have plenty of competition.

However, that isn’t going to stop Spurs from doing similar business as the Express reports Tottenham is among the clubs tracking 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, who is being hailed as the next Erling Haaland.

The teenager scored ten times in 36 appearances last season for the Austrian champions after netting 21 goals in 29 appearances for Salzburg’s feeder side FC Liefering during his 2020/21 season.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs might purchase him and leave him on loan as they did with Sarr last summer or keep tabs on the striker, which is what the report states they’ll do.

Spurs don’t give inducements to players or their parents or get their parents jobs or find them houses, that’s part of the problem.

Spurs have to join in with City, Chelsea et al by trying to buy young players on the cheap, but our scouting network has to be better. We don’t have a good track record in this department. It has cost us dear in the last 10 years when our Academy has done very little to trouble the First team. Our loaned out youngsters tend to be League One quality at best with the likes of Pritchard doing ok in the Championship.

The main problem is City, Chelsea et al are a more attractive option for families when deciding on an academy or a transfer at 18. A culture change is needed, but have Spurs got the resources to compete? Not at the moment, especially with City being allowed to own clubs all around the globe. That is utter nonsense by the way.

The quality of players we have on loan seems to be going up – add him to the now full international Parrott and scoring England youngster Scarlett and I guess suddenly it looks favourable you might get the next Kane…or at least a ‘second choice striker of quality’ at some point down the line
