Tottenham are ready to sanction the departure of English defensive sensation Ashley Phillips before the end of the transfer deadline.
The North London club have been quite busy in the transfer window in recent weeks. They have already made significant additions to their squad and are looking to ensure they have everything in place before the start of the new campaign.
While signing players is the primary focus, they are also looking to offload players who are surplus to requirements. According to a report from Football Insider, Ange Postecoglou doesn’t count on Ashley Phillips for the 2024/25 season and Spurs are ready to part ways with him.
Phillips joined the North London club last summer after coming up the ranks and making a name for himself at Blackburn. While the 19-year-old centre-back is considered a huge prospect for the future, he is not yet ready for first-team football at Spurs.
During the first half of last season, he featured in five matches for their Under-21 team before joining Plymouth on a short loan move. He had an impressive stint away from the club as he was involved in 20 matches and even contributed towards a goal.
While he is back at his parent club, Phillips has had limited game time in pre-season as Postecoglou doesn’t feel he is ready to play for their first team. As a result, they are looking to send him out on loan before the end of the transfer deadline. There is interest in his services from Getafe who are looking to bolster their defence and feel the teenager could add much-needed depth to their backline. But, the La Liga outfit won’t find it easy to sign him as there is interest from other clubs across Europe.
