Tottenham Hotspur signed Lucas Bergvall from Swedish outfit Djurgarden during the January transfer window.
They managed to beat competition from Barcelona to sign the 18-year-old midfielder. The player has been loaned back to Djurgarden for the remainder of the season and he will join up with his new club in the summer.
Bergvall is regarded as one of the finest young talents in European football and he is expected to develop into an important first-team player for Tottenham with the right guidance. The 18-year-old will look to hit the ground running in the Premier League next season.
It is no secret that Tottenham need to bring in a quality central midfielder and the 18-year-old will be expected to add creativity, control and drive to the side. He is expected to contribute with goals as well.
The midfielder is versatile enough to operate as the central midfielder as well as the number ten. It will be interesting to see if he can make an immediate impact in the Premier League next season. Perhaps the midfielder will need time to develop his physique and adapt to his new surroundings.
However, there is no doubt that he is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead ahead of him. His former coach Peter Kisfaludy has now revealed in an interview that the midfielder has the attributes to develop into one of the top ten midfielders in world football.
He said to Aftonbladet (h/t SportWitness): “I have had Lucas since November, 2015, when he was nine years old. He has always been so extremely talented and I have always had the feeling that he can go as far as he wants and that there is no stopping him. In three, four years, when he is 22-23 years old, he will be one of the world’s best midfielders. He will belong to the top ten in the world among midfielders.”
A move to the Premier League will certainly accelerate his development and it remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou can play a key role in his growth as a footballer. The comments from Kisfaludy will certainly get Tottenham fans excited and they will be hoping to see him develop over the next few years.
