Tottenham looking to bring 29-year-old star back to the Premier League

By Saikat -

Tottenham have been linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks and Antonio Rudiger happens to be the latest name linked with a move to the London club by Fichajes

Spurs have struggled at the back this season with players like Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez putting in mediocre performances. Summer signing Clement Lenglet hasn’t exactly hit the ground running either.

Cristian Romero is the only reliable defender at the back and Antonio Conte has a vital summer transfer window ahead of him. Tottenham must bring in a quality centre-back if they want to challenge for the major trophies.

Antonio Rudiger seems like a superb option in theory but it remains to be seen whether Spurs can lure him to the club. His history with Chelsea and the fact that he has a long-term deal with Real Madrid complicates any potential move.

On top of that, he earns around €9 million per season at Real Madrid and Spurs would have to break the bank for him. In addition to that, they must also make sure that they are in the Champions League next season. A player of Rudiger’s quality will not want to join a club without Champions League football.

If Tottenham manage to get the deal across the line, it would be a tremendous upgrade on some of their current options. The German international could transform them at the back. Rudiger is not just a good defender, his leadership skills would come in handy as well.
