Tottenham ‘long-term admirers’ of 25-year-old PL ace, monitoring him ahead of January window

By Saikat -

Everton defender Ben Godfrey has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 25-year-old central defender has dropped down the pecking order at Goodison Park and Sean Dyche has preferred the likes of James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, and Jarrad Branthwaite ahead of him.

It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old decides to push for a move away from the club in January. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and a report from 90 Min claims that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are keen on him.

Apparently, Tottenham have been ‘long-term admirers’ of the defender and they have been keeping tabs on him ahead of the January window.

Tottenham will prioritise the signing of a central defender in January, and the likes of Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah are reportedly on their transfer wishlist as well.

Godfrey has done well in English football over the years and he could prove to be a long-term acquisition for Tottenham. He has the potential to develop into a quality central defender for the north London club and he will add some much-needed depth to their defensive unit as well.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to offer the 25-year-old ample gametime. They have Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven as the first-choice pairing right now and Godfrey might struggle to start regularly for them.

The defender needs to join a club where he will play regularly and he must seek gametime assurance before making the move.

Everton paid £20 million for the defender when they signed him from Norwich City and they will probably look to recoup most of that if Tottenham come calling.
