Tottenham Linked With January Move For Ajax Star- [Not Hakim Ziyech]

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur could swoop for Ajax’s Noussair Mazraoui in January to solve their right-back crisis, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

Former Spurs and Ajax midfielder Rafael van der Vaart admitted to Voetbal Primeur that he had encouraged Daniel Levy to go after Hakim Ziyech, the creative midfielder who scored in last year’s Champions League semi-final.

However, Calciomercato, via AS Roma Live, understands that Spurs have their eyes on possibly signing another Ajax player – 21-year-old Mazraoui.

Mazraoui has failed to nail down the right-back spot in Amsterdam but has still proved a useful squad member to manager Eric Ten Haag as he is able to play in several positions, including left-back and holding midfield.

Right-back has become a problem position for Spurs in recent years, with Kieran Trippier enduring a torried final season before leaving for Atletico Madrid and Serge Aurier proving an even bigger defensive liability.

Mauricio Pochettino needs somebody he can rely on in this position so moving for Ajax’s second choice would appear to be a bit of a gamble.

Imagine if he was even worse than Aurier. Eurgh, just the thought of it.
