Tottenham linked with a move for Leicester City international star

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham have made Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell one of their summer targets as Jose Mourinho looks to solve his longstanding defence problems.

Spurs have struggled at the back this season and have several underperforming defenders on their books.

They have convinced Toby Alderweireld to sign a contract extension, but they look likely to lose Jan Vertonghen who is set to get a free transfer out of the Tottenham Stadium this summer.

FootMercato is reporting that Jose Mourinho has made a list of targets to help his side solve their defensive problems and Chilwell is one of them, as he considers the full-back the ideal long term replacement for Danny Rose.

Chilwell has been one of the most consistent left-backs in the country for the past two seasons. He snubbed Liverpool earlier in his career and he has now developed into an England international at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City is known to be open to selling any of their players, but they always sell them at a premium and Spurs can be expected to be quoted a significant transfer fee for the 23-year-old.

The same report also claims that Issa Diop of West Ham is another player that is attracting the attention of Jose Mourinho as part of his plans to make his defence stronger.

Unfortunately, Premier League footballers are not Spurs fans. And Levy negotiates on the club’s behalf. In the early to mid 80s, I was a dreamer. We got to finals and won trophies. Winners can afford to be dreamers. Now, after being fed gruel for 20 years by my club I’m a realist and I know the place of the club. Do you honestly believe we are in with a hope of signing the likes of Savic, Koulibaly, Sabitzer and English players like Maddison, Grealish and Chilwell without Ch Lg football, a chairman who doesn’t pay big fees and pays below market rate wages?

It’s all about perception and Levy is seen as a cheapskate, which then reflects negatively on Spurs.

The Mail has them back in for him, with Monaco’s Bailo-Toure as back up option.

Should levy act like a small club and not show any interest in top players? We can afford him just as much (more even) than most clubs. May pay it, might not pay it doesn’t mean we can’t. Ballers gonna be cheapish now anyway.

Leicester pay well, very well and are in a Ch Lg spot. Their form had deteriorated but could Wolves catch them, displacing them? Seems doubtful, so why would Chilwell leave for us?

Chelsea were quoted Β£60 mill for Chilwell and are looking elsewhere as he is deemed to be too expensive. Along with the Savic from Lazio rumour, this can be consigned to Donna Cullens’ shredder.
