Tottenham are interested in signing James Garner from Everton ahead of next season.
The North London club are looking for ways to further reinforce Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the upcoming transfer window. They are looking to add more quality to their midfield and according to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are keen on signing Everton defensive midfielder James Garner.
On the back of an impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest, the Toffees acquired his services for £15 million from his boyhood club Manchester United. The 23-year-old has taken his game to another level since making the move to the Merseyside club back in 2022.
He has been a consistent performer for Everton and last season, he was involved in 44 matches for them. Garner racked up over 3,600 minutes and was used in different roles throughout the 2023/24 campaign. He was used as a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder, out wide on the flanks as well as in a more attacking role in the midfield.
His impressive rise has put him on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur. They have been monitoring him closely for a while now and look all set to make a move in the upcoming window. With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso likely to leave, Spurs are looking to bring in midfield replacements and they feel Garner could be a great acquisition for them.
While Tottenham seem keen on signing him, Everton have opened contract renewal talks in hopes of keeping the 23-year-old in their ranks. Garner still has two years left on his deal, but Sean Dyche’s team are ready to reward him for his progress in hopes of fending off the interest in his services.
The renewal talks are underway despite the club’s ongoing financial concerns and the collapse of 777 Partners’ takeover. While the Merseyside club are confident about tying him down to a new deal, Spurs are looking to prise him away.
