Tottenham keen on highly regarded Norwegian youngster as possible Jan Vertonghen replacement

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham seems to have found a replacement for the outgoing Jan Vertonghen as they target a move for Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer reports Norwegian media outlet Sporten.

The Norwegian has been in fine form for Celtic since he joined them and he looks ready to step up to a bigger European team.

This season is probably the last he will have at Celtic Park as a number of teams are now looking to sign him when the transfer window reopens.

Sporten is now claiming that Spurs have become the latest side to be linked with a move for Ajer as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in another centre back in place of Vertonghen.

The Belgian is out of contract at the end of this season and he looks all set to end his association with Spurs.

Mourinho appears to be already preparing for life without him and the former Chelsea manager has targeted the likes of Dayot Upamecano before now.

However, he probably knows that Upamecano may be out of his budget and he has now reportedly turned his attention to Ajer.

Celtic, so the report claims, want around £25 million for the defender, but Spurs would face serious competition from other teams.

AC Milan, Arsenal, and Leicester City have all been linked with a move for the defender as they all look to bolster their defence.

Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers managed Ajer at Celtic and the defender could be tempted by a reunion with his former boss.
